Deletion of Kurdistan Workers Party(PKK)Tweets

At the heart of the legal tussle between the Turkish government and Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) is the PKK. The government considers the outfit as a terrorist group and has requested the microblogging site to delete all propaganda tweets.

Protesting against the government action and imposition of fine, Twitter spokesperson reported that the US-based social networking site had filed before courts.

Toughened Stance

The Government of Turkey has become increasingly tough in the way it handles social media. The policies especially with respect to terrorist groups’ propaganda have become stricter, with newly appointed President Tayyip Erdoga. It was for the first time that such a strong case was made against a social media player as Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) by the Turkish government. Earlier the site was banned several times for brief periods. Twitter’s refusal to remove controversial political comments from the platform had led to such bans.

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) wants legal relief from the fine and has argued that the fine is against the essence of the law. In a move to curtail inaction by the likes of social media players like Twitter Inc., the government has amended legislation for quicker bans to be imposed.
