There are a number of smartphones available in the market. However, none of them have a tool to block ads. There are tools to block ads, if any consumer is interested. Now, Asus, the laptop, as well as, smartphone manufacturer, has apparently felt that there appears to be a market for the device with ad-blocking feature. As a result, the company has aligned with Adblock Plus to launch ad-blocking feature as a default one on its smartphone.
Automatically Block Website Ads
The key is that the principal Asus browser would block website ads automatically barring the ads that appear on ‘acceptable ads’ of ‘Adblock Plus white-list. That was because such ads were not regarded as an intrusion of the browsing experience. Both the companies are yet to offer the details of the planned offerings.
However, the reports quoted Adblock Plus co-founder and CEO, Till Faida, as saying that the company was happy to align with Asus to make ad block as an integrated tool in their mobile devices. He termed the development as an innovation in the ad industry as the call for it was becoming a big one as the time progressed. The call to ad block got louder after Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) disclosed that it would enable ad blocking apps with the launch of its iOS9 update earlier this year.
Yet To Match The Desktop Level
However, the ad blocking in the mobile device is yet to reach the peak level to match desktop ad blocking levels. A report of PageFair, as well as, Adobe indicated that there was only 1.6% share of ad blocking browsing from the mobile device. That was partly because of the absence of the users’ effort to use the app since the user needs to download the app and then configure the browsing settings. Also, the apps work only with some browsers.
Currently, Asus Browser enjoys only 15 million users. However, the alliance might force other browsers and manufacturers to have a tie up with Adblock Plus.
