General Motors Company’s (NYSE:GM) former Vice Chairman Bob Lutz has roped in two other auto experts to launch a new American car company, VLF Automotive. The new company’s other founders are – BMW Z8’s celebrity designer, Henrik Fisker, and entrepreneur Gilbert Villarreal, a former Boeing employee.
The new company is a revival of an earlier car manufacturer founded by Lutz and Villarereal in 2012. VL Automotive had created a lot of interest for a car it designed called ‘Destino,’ in 2013. In 2014, it was acquired by GreenTech Automotive to manufacture electric car, and various components for Chinese car brand, Saleen.
New Destino
Ex-General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) Lutz announced that the newly-founded auto manufacturing company will concentrate on building America’s first Supercar.
In the initial stage, the company will manufacture a newer version of its successful car model, ‘Destino.’ While four-door design would be the design factor, the innards would include a drivetrain by Chevrolet Corvette, engine.
In the meanwhile, designer Fisker would also release his new Force 1 vehicles as well.
Supercar
General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) ex-chairman and his co-founders want to leverage their individual expertise to build one of America’s true supercars.
Ebullient Fisker called the new VLF Automotive as a venture that will ‘seek to change the future of the American auto industry.’
VLF Automotive will operate a manufacturing unit at Auburn Hills, Michigan and run a design unit in Los Angeles. Later in the year, the company hopes to appoint seven exclusive dealerships for the supercar.
General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) ex-chairman’s new automotive adventure will be subjective to lot of evaluation. Both Lutz and Fisker’s earlier business forays have fizzled due unreliable engineering, especially, the Karma model by Fisker. The new model of Destino by VLF Automotive will race up to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds achieving highest speed of 200 mph. The new Destino will retail at $229,000.
