Are you tired of the same old, same old? Are you looking for something new when it comes to business? So are most people. As an up and coming entrepreneur it’s more important than ever to break the status quo and try something new with your business. Let’s face it. There are thousands of restaurants, stores and services out there that are all copy and pastes of one another. It’s time to head back to the drawing board and come up with a business idea that is bringing something new to the table. Staying unique in the business world will win you brownie points with investors and consumers alike.
Now, there is a fine line between creating a business that is too unusual where people won’t invest, and one that draws peoples’ attention. You want to be able to relate to your customers and give them a product or service that they actually want to spend money on. It can be hard to break people out of their routine, so as a new business you want to make them take a chance on something out of their comfort zone. Incorporating your skills and personality brings a unique flare that the business world needs to see more often.
“Creating a business is all about relating to your audience on a personal level. Whether it’s the mission of your business that intrigues them or even just your personality as an owner, people want to feel connected to something. In my experience, I have always used my sense of humor and comedic personality to reach people. Entrepreneurship and comedy actually have a lot in common,” says Alan Siege, CEO and host of The Pitch Show.
Your business is a reflection of you as a person. People crave connections and adding a personal touch to your business will keep customers coming back for more. If your business is just a cookie cutter version of every other business in the world, you will not stand out amongst the crowd. One of the best ways to do this is by having a clear mission that relates to your customers on an emotional level.
Consumers are people, and they want to feel heard and validated. As a business owner it’s not only your job to create a product or service that appeals to them, but you want to make each customer feel special. Creating an impact needs to be at the heart of the company, and should be promoted on every level. Whether that’s having an emotional slogan that pulls at peoples’ heart strings, or having employees that welcome each customer, it’s necessary to create a positive space for people to shop. That’s where your personality can come in and shine.
“The point is one has to be ready to make decisions quickly and act on them quickly. This is so similar to the challenges of being an entrepreneur. What worked yesterday may not work today and you have to constantly keep watching and listening to make sure you’re on track,” Siege says.
Being an entrepreneur is not just about selling something. It’s about creating a community that is centered around your brand. Adding personal touches to your business will help you gain success in an industry that can sometimes be lacking in creativity. People want to get to know one another, and starting a small business is a great vessel to reach people. To win brownie points in the industry, you have to be willing to step outside of your comfort zone and use your creativity to allow others to be heard. If you sit back and create something that has been done time and time again, you might not grow as much as you want.
The Pitch Show NYC is helping entrepreneurs do just that by giving them the space to pitch their ideas to the local community. The next show will be on October 30th at 6:30 p.m. ET! You can sign up now to reserve your “seat” online. Tickets are available for free, but space is limited, so be sure to secure your spot!
