Volkswagen AG (ADR) (OTCMKTS:VLKAY) Announces Another Goodwill Program

The beleaguered Volkswagen AG (ADR) (OTCMKTS:VLKAY) has been trying to erase the memory of emission scandal. As a result, the company has unveiled another ‘Goodwill Program’ for its 3.0-Liter TDI diesel engines. Incidentally, that was one of the engines to be implicated in the emissions scandal during the fall season in the United States. The automaker is trying to replicate what it did in respect of its 2.0 TDI goodwill program. Significantly, the move comes before the launch of its Tiguan Active GTE concept.

Offer Of Two Prepaid Gift Cards

As part of the program, Volkswagen AG (ADR) (OTCMKTS:VLKAY) would offer two prepaid gift cards worth $500. While one gift card is meant to spend wherever the customers opt for it, the second one is redeemable only at its dealer. However, that did not end the discussion on the emission issue. Its CEO for America, Michael Horn, admitted that it was a big disappointment for its customers and the government bodies apart from the general public in the America.

Its Group CEO, Matthias Muller, expressed his apology for whatever sins committed by the automaker. He also said that the company was fully committed to correcting everything. Volkswagen AG (ADR) (OTCMKTS:VLKAY) indicated that it was in discussions with the Environmental Protection Agency in the United States and the California Air Resources Board. The company said that the discussions were based on November 20 proposals indicating its readiness to repair its diesel emissions.

Repair Plan To Be Presented

The automaker said that it would present the repair plan once the proposals were cleared by the concerned authorities. In Europe, the company would commence its diesel repairs as disclosed by it in November last year. Currently, there are no indications as to how the car maker would go about the repairs in the America. However, one report suggested that Volkswagen AG (ADR) (OTCMKTS:VLKAY) would install about 430,000 catalytic converters on the affected diesel models.

The modifications would bring the cars into emission regulations compliance apart from ensuring the owners the performance, as well as, fuel economy. The customers preferred the company’s models due to these two key qualities.
